Vlog: Do companies really need social media?

JD Wetherspoon have recently launched a company wide social media blackout, as reported by The Drum. This news, along with previous research that 87% of chief marketing officers that invest in social media feel that they have not been able to document its impact, raises the question of how necessary social media is for other industries, particularly public relations.

As social media is found on Web 2.0 principles, social networking sites are highly interactive and open for collaboration. This could be seen as complimentary to the aims of public relations, especially in the digital age.
