Kieran Harris

I’m currently studying an MA in Public Relations and Strategic Communication at Leeds Beckett University, where I’ve gained experience developing campaigns in student-led teams for clients. Previously, I studied a BA in Popular Music with Music Technology at the University of Derby, which gave me a solid grounding in music theory and enabled to gain hands-on experience within a studio setting.

Alongside my education, I undertook internships within journalism and PR to enhance my practical skills and to gain insight from both professions. Working for Exposed Magazine, an independent music magazine in Sheffield, I created news stories and features for several issues, as well as interviewing major artists such as The Charlatans and Rolo Tomassi at Tramlines Festival. My passion for writing and determination for success also enabled me to be nominated for the Rising Star Award at last year’s Games Media Awards.

The ability to work effectively in a team and produce spontaneous ideas are two key skills that I have demonstrated throughout my postgraduate degree, as I have been required to work cooperatively in teams to formulate campaign ideas. I’ve also demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills when contacting tutors and clients and presenting the final proposal.

Within my upcoming PR internship, I’m hoping to develop my understanding of corporate PR and life within a PR agency. My long-term career goal would be to secure a position within the music PR sector, as music is something I have always been extremely passionate about.
