Author: Daniela Hamill

I am a 21 year old public relations and journalism student at Leeds Beckett University and PR account executive. After completing my A Levels in business, French and performing arts, I started out as a junior digital marketing assistant at a small local education company in Doncaster. Having gained some experience in the field, I started my BA Hons in public relations and journalism to develop my skills further. Within the first year of my university studies, I developed a strong work ethic and passion for public relations so I secured a part-time position as a PR account executive at a Leeds-based PR agency. From this, I have been given the opportunity to write blogs, create social media content, conduct video interviews and edit videos on behalf of different companies in the manufacturing, construction and energy industries, while building up a network of contacts. Having a year’s experience in public relations, I have developed my communication skills by growing my experience in different forms of written communication as well as developing a confident telephone manner. My time management skills have improved massively since having to adhere to tight schedules and heavy workloads. Working in technical PR, I have found the industries and clients that I work with really interesting. Research has been paramount to my professional work as I am still learning the technical language and themes used in manufacturing, construction and renewable energy. I have always had a keen interest in most sports so combining my love for sports and passion for public relations is something that I wish to achieve in the future. Ideally, I would like to specialise in the social media side of PR as this is the path that I am going down in terms of training and professional development for both my professional job, studies and volunteering.
