Author: Dimitrios Nakai

My name is Dimitrios Nakai and I am 23 years old. I am currently a Post graduate student at Leeds Beckett University, undertaking a MA Public Relations and Communication Strategy Course. I have recently graduated in July 2017 with a Bachelor Degree in Hospitality Leadership & Management at Leeds Beckett University which taught how to be confident about myself and make understand that I want to have a future career in hotels and marketing. During my Bachelor Degree, I undertook a placement year at Hilton Leeds City which introduced me to the great world of Hospitality business and more specifically I learned a lot about how a hotel properly functions. During my placement, I assisted in many events such as The Yorkshire Awards and Hilton Worldwide exhibition which took place at the hotel. Additionally, in the exhibition I was acting as hotel representative and my main responsibilities involved promoting the hotel to certain clients which made me more confident at my role in the hotel and because of that I got nominated for the Rising Star in Leeds Hotel & Venue Association Annual Awards 2016. After, I completed my placement year, I got promoted as a Meetings & Events Operations Supervisor in DoubleTree By Hilton Leeds City Centre. I have run many big and successful events in the hotel such as Arriva North, NHS Digital, PUMA, Ben Sherman Fashion Shows and Lloyds Internet Banking. I developed more interpersonal skills which assist the hotel to get develop through the year. As a result of that, I was nominated for Conference Host of The Year 2017 in the internal Annual Award (Pride of Valor) of the company. In the near future, I would like to get a job in a different hotel in the Hilton Portfolio Brands as PR or Commercial Manager/ Marketing Manager. The PR course at Leeds Beckett University has helped to better understand the prospects of PR and Digital Communication and how they can applied to a business. Therefore, my two degrees combined will provide me with all the necessary attributes and skillsets to achieve my goals for my future career.
