A showcase of Leeds Beckett University's students in the School of Public Relations and Journalism
Author: Emma Woolley
I am a motivated and hard working Public Relations student in my second year at Leeds Beckett University, and have achieved the Dean’s prize for the most outstanding Level 4 student on BA (Hons) Public Relations.
Throughout school my interest in writing became apparent, and as a result of this I focussed my studies on subjects such as English Literature, whilst also studying the fascinating nature of people, as demonstrated through my A Levels in Psychology and Sociology. I have an interest in travelling and have studied German for 7 years.
My completion of an internship in a marketing agency included writing infographic text, text for an e-magazine, press releases and using social media analytics tools. This is important as I have experienced authentic scenarios, in which I was able to adapt and apply my theoretical knowledge, whilst improving my communication and ICT skills.
I have demonstrated an aptitude for teamwork through my voluntary time with the National Citizenship Service, during which I worked alongside 14 new peers for a month to raise over £1000 for charity. Therefore I have good networking skills, and have increased my resilience and ability to mix with people from all walks of life.
Throughout my first year of university I have further developed my time management and problem solving skills. After gaining a first, I have demonstrated my communication and writing skills, ability to effectively plan and present theoretical campaigns, and recognition of how other areas of business interact on a larger scale.
My career aim is to work within the PR industry, with a focus on entertainment and leisure, as I have a passion for films and TV shows. My recent achievement of obtaining a year placement at The Walt Disney Company will allow me to explore this part of the industry further.
