Author: Helen Mehammer

After working within retail for a good amount of years, being a Manager and Taxi driver (among other things), I stumbled upon communication studies with a specialization within visual media in Kristiansand, Norway. Going back to become a full time student was not as hard as people said. I quickly found friends and activities, such as web editor for the Student Paper as well as treasurer for the Communication Society. At the end, I chose to spend my last semester of my Bachelor’s degree as an Erasmus+ student at York St John University. When I was in York I decided to apply to Leeds Beckett University to the MA Public Relations and Strategic Communications course - in which I just finished an internship at Acceleris as part of my Work Placement module. Studying both in York and Leeds has given me an advantage in Norway. I can offer skills in international and intercultural relations, I’m comfortable travelling abroad, and I’ve become confident speaking and relate to people in a different language. My goal after I’ve finished my master’s degree is obviously to find a job. However, working within PR and Communications offers a wide range of possibilities in which I’m not quite sure where to begin. During my time in Leeds, I’ve figured out that working within a creative environment is something I appreciate, I’ve also found that reputation management is a very interesting field in which I would like to explore more and perhaps become an expert in. But for now, all I know is that I’m looking forward working within PR and Communications and get an in-depth knowledge of the field.
