My name is Sofia Solia and I am a Greek 26-year old postgraduate student at Leeds Beckett University. My strong interest in languages and culture led me to study Classics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. This academic road gave me the opportunity to acknowledge the power of language and develop my critical thinking. Throughout these years, my interaction with young students as a private tutor for Greek language and Latin has made me a good listener and contributed to my empathy. Teaching has also helped me to improve my presentation skills. Having the desire to obtain a real-class-experience, I fulfilled my internship at a public school, supported by the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) not only in teaching, but also in providing information to teenagers-future Classicists about my field of interest. My passion about Greek tradition and heritage issues made me attend a plethora of seminars relevant to that sector. Moreover, I had the opportunity to be in charge of a Greek folklore festival for my local community. My main responsibilities involved setting up the event by instructing dances and conceiving the presentation and promotion via social media. My contact with the professional world of business initiated when I was working as a sales/promotion manager in Greek trade shows, especially for exhibitors in the sector of fashion. My social interaction with clients and the inside view that I had from each exhibitor’s strategy not only contributed to cultivate my communication and persuasion skills, but motivated me to continue my studies in PR and Strategic Communication. Throughout these experiences, my career goals are based on developing and taking part in PR campaigns and events, both in the industry of culture (cultural institutions, museums, and art galleries) and in the industry of luxury goods.
